If you use the dishwasher a lot, it’s important to keep it clean. Thankfully, this doesn’t mean you have to clean it thoroughly every day; just be sure to check the filter each time before use. When the filter is full of residue, the water will not drain properly and everything will remain dirty.
To make your machine last longer, your dishwasher needs weekly maintenance. It sounds like a lot of work, but it’s really not! Once a week, run your dishwasher on the hottest setting to remove any grease residue. Then clean the rubber parts thoroughly with a damp cloth.
What can really save your dishwasher is running a cycle with a special cleaner in the machine every month. There are those ready-made (and expensive) cleaning products that you can buy, but you can also easily make one yourself. This is cheap and easy. Pour a dash of vinegar in the bottom of the machine, cut a lemon into slices and place these in the cutlery tray, then run the dishwasher on the hottest setting. Voilà, your dishwasher is clean!
